Rawana Falls is located on the Ella – Kithalella road below the famous Rawana cave where Sita was in captivity. It can be viewed by taking a walk along the railway track. The other route is along a farm road; over a small rock bridge you can have a close look at one of the most ignored waterfalls in the country that speaks of pre history. There are many legends linking Rawana and Sita and the falls. Below the fall nearby a pool bored out of the rock by the gushing 

Ravana Falls

The Ravana Falls (popularly known as Ravana Ella in Sinhala) is a popular sightseeing attraction in Sri Lanka. It currently ranks as one of the widest falls in the country. This waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. During the local wet season, the waterfall turns into what is said to resemble an areca flower with withering petals. But this is not the case in the dry season, where the flow of water reduces dramatically. The falls form part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary, and is located 6 km (3.7 mi) away from the loca

Historical legend

The falls have been named after the legendary Sinhala king Ravana, which is connected to the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to legend, it is said that Ravana (who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella Cave. The reason for the kidnapping is said to be a revenge for slicing off the nose of his sister by Rama (husband of Sita) and his brother Laxmana. At the time, the cave was surrounded with thick forests in the midst of wilderness. It is also believed that Rama’s queen bathed in a pool that accumulated the water falling from this waterfall.They believed that Ravana has played the Ravanahatha over here.

Ravana Falls

Ravana falls is another beautiful waterfall which situated in Badulla district. It’s located in Bandarawela – Wellawaya main road. It’s about 11 Km away from Bandarawela. Rawana Falla or Rawana Ella which is about 82ft (25m) high and and cascade from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop.
Forming part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary, the source of the fall is the Bandarawela Hill Oya Reservoir, and it flows to the Kirindi Oya Reservoir.
Ravana caves naer Rawana Falls:
According to legend, it is said that King Ravana (who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sitha, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella (ravana falls) Cave. At the time, the cave was surrounded with thick forests in the midst of wilderness. There is small pool which consider as queen Sitas bathed in a pool that accumulated the water falling from this waterfall.
Ravana caves is one of the most attractive place for both local and foreign tourists. Which is located rear ravana falls it’s about 1,370 m (4,490 ft) above sea level.

It is on the Ella –Wellawaya road and visible from the main road. Although the main drop is 30 ft in height, it’s a wide fall and the water rushes over several steps adding to it’s beauty.Ravana falls is closely linked in legend with the great epic of the east.Ramayanaya.It’ name is from Ravana, The powerful demon king who once ruled SriLanka.The cave hidden behind the fall is still believed by many to be one of the places where he hid the beautiful princess, Sita, after her abduction from India.

Ravana waterfalls is one of very beautiful of Sri Lanka and which is situated at Badulla district and you can visit it Near Ella place. This waterfall is situated near the Bandarawela-Wallawawaya road. When you travel along this way you can see nice waterfall called Ravana falls.

Ravana means ancient story of India and Sri Lanka. We can identify that this fall also has long history. Without special reason the name isn't kept. There fore we can't think that Ravana falls hasn't long history.

Middle of the Ravana fall there is a tunnel. People cant though it but in King Walagamba's time they might through it. Some people tried to through it although they couldn't get permission. Near Ravana falls there is a Temple called Dova Temple. This temple also has same tunnel. Some says that those tunnels are not two those are only one. Some says that there are tunnel system to protect king and others. Various places of Badulla district has these type of tunnels. Dova Temple was made by King Walagamba in 13th Century.

Dowa king Walagmba ancient Temple and there were very secret tunnel system at between those places. In now some tunnels are there. Through the tunnels is some what dangerous.

Ravana Ella (Ravana Falls) - Srilankan waterfalls

The famous Ravana Ella cave lies 4500 feet above sea level on the foundation of a cliff in Uva. The grandeur of the Ravana fall is its wild look amidst wilderness. This place is one of the most sought after tourist attractions of Sri Lanka and is located 7 miles away from Bandarawela. The stunning Ravana Ella falls is situated a little more distance away from here and is known to be one of the widest falls of Sri Lanka. The water falling from the Ravana Ella, finds it course down in three stages for 9 meters and then bends itself in a stream. It is believed to originate from the dense Wewatenna highland.

The picturesque Ravana Ella falls is about 30 foot high and can be observable from the main road. The beauty of the falls lies in the fact that it is located against the strikingly beautiful backdrop of mountains and valleys. The water gushes down over many stairs to create a breathtaking scenario. The place is a quiet and favored stop to rest for pilgrims.
